Plywood

Plywood description

Plywood is a wood panel composed of an odd numbers of thin layers of wood, called veneers. Thickness of a single veneer depends on technology of the production line, usually it is about 1.4 mm. Veneers are bonded (glued and pressed) together with an adhesive and oriented with its grains running at right angles to the adjacent layers. Such layout reduce the shrinkage and improve the strength of the panel. Concerning the type of the adhesive plywood can be designed for interior or exterior use. The exterior plywood is highly resistant to water unlike the interior one. Because of its construction, plywood has very good mechanical properties. High bending and water resistance make it one of the strongest construction material. In the process of further manufacturing plywood might be overlaid with several types of coatings for decorative and special purpose.
